Let’s face it. Sometimes at the end of a long long day of campaigning, momming, and life-ing, all you want to do is have some dinner (see: Eat), relax your mind a bit (see: Mind), and maybe have a lovely glass of wine or a cold beer. If wine and beer are not your thing, that’s great too, a cup of tea or coffee might be just what you need.
Now we are not advocating a nightly routine of any kind but speaking from our own personal experience, it’s not only nice but necessary to take time and unwind every day.
We know that a day on the campaign trail can be exhausting and the last thing you are going to want to do is stop at the local bottle shop or coffee shop on your way home. What’s a prepared mom candidate to do, you ask?
1. Magic Wine Fairies (aka Wine Subscriptions)
The easiest way to make sure that you have what you want when you want is to sign up for a wine subscription service. Plus who doesn’t love getting a big box of wine to open when you get home?! Here are a few awesome options to try:
Wincis a wonderful option if you want flexibility to stop and start. They have you fill in a palate profile and then suggest wines based on your profile. Even better? First timers get a significant discount and there's a referral program so you can share with your friends! (Click below for a coupon for your first order...you're welcome!)
FirstLeaf is another fun option. They create your wine selections based on your location preference and color wines (red, white, pink) and then continue to hone in on your palate based on their review system (and your own personal reviews).
Vineboxis our final suggestion and a great one for people who like to try different things. VineBox is great because you get single glass trials of different and unique varieties of wine. We absolutely love this idea.
2. Alternatively. Beer Fairies ('cause we're not biased)
While it may be hard for us to imagine, there are people out there who don’t actually like wine. Perhaps you like a nice frosty beer instead? Here are two options to have your favorites at hand when you get home:
Craft Beer ClubThe name of the club says it all. Craft beer club delivers 12 to 24 beers a month, with free shipping and multiple shipment options.
Tavourworks with small breweries and hello? It even has an app. They aren't a beer-of-the-month club...you only get the beer you want. Looks like fun!
3. No Alcohol for you? No Problem! How about coffee and/or tea?
Maybe you’re not a wine or beer drinker. Or maybe you like to have multiple relaxing beverages available at all times. We completely understand. We suggest that you keep some favorite coffee and/or tea on hand to help you start and finish the day. It may seem silly but the little things can make a big difference in how you experience your campaign. Not having to think about stopping for coffee or running out to the store to buy more is huge when you're putting in long hours. Some of our favorite options are:
Nespresso. If you use a single serve brewer, one of our personal favorites is Nespresso. Although we recognize that pods are not great for the environment, and that these pods do require the Nespresso coffee machine, they are delicious. You can also order prepaid recycle bags for your pods directly from the company. Slightly better than a K cup and significantly tastier!
Peet's Coffee. Sadly, we don't all live near a Peet's Coffee Shop. Lucky for us, all it takes is a standard drip coffee pot and a bag of Peet's Coffee and we're good to go. If you want to try something different, try a bag of Stumptown, which is owned by Peet's.
Yogi Tea. One of our favorite brands of tea is from Yogi Tea. We've linked you up here with a nine flavor variety pack, so you've got tea for every mood of the campaign.
Harney & Sons Tea. Another of our favorite teas, Harney & Sons comes in pretty tins, making tea-time feel a little bit more like an experience. Make it a relaxing one!
Sometimes the little things are the only things that make a day go the way you intend. Because we believe in setting intentions, and the power of positive thinking (see: Mind), we here at Moms Running suggest finding a wine glass, mug, tea cup, that brings you joy. It’s just a cup you say? Sure. It’s just a cup. But if it is a cup that brings a smile to your face or warms your heart then why not?
